SAXMADE

…is beautifully designed and handmade furniture; sculpture that delights the eye and intrigues the mind. Original and highly creative work that satisfies the needs of modern living, explores the beauty of the material used and the geometric forms that develop during the design and making process. The work derives from the Emergence of Modern Architecture in the early and mid-20th Century and also is strongly influenced by modern aeronautical design.

MAKER; MR saxon rudduck

Living and working from his home workshop in Norwood, South Australia, Sax has a life time's work in domestic and hospitality architecture throughout Adelaide. He has also been heavily involved in a number of industrial design projects from aviation to children’s toys and beyond. SAXMADE furniture has come to fruition now that the daily grind of consulting has gone and free rein can be given to the creative spirit, inventiveness, artistry and making.

MATERIAL

The designer's choice is hand-rubbed Australian hardwood veneer, "Tasmanian Oak" (Eucalyptus regnans), bonded to medium density fibreboard (MDF) creating a remarkably strong and stable material. This composite board responds to environmental issues being a sustainable and an economic use of this valuable resource. With Tasmanian Oak the core MDF material is of a compatible colour and texture to the veneer. This allows a highly desirable "design honesty" in detailing the finished item without fussy cover strips and gives the beautiful colour of the grain free reign.

FORM

All the work from SAXMADE responds to classic modern design philosophy such as; "form follows function", "less is more" and "KISS". Planar geometry revels in the play of light and shade and the sheer beauty of the timber - creating cheerful, lightweight and strong items.
